About Rugby and District Trap Club

RDTC was founded in June 1988 originally to shoot DTL (Down The Line) and ABT (Automatic Ball Trap). We quickly gained a good reputation for our ABT so DTL was dropped in 1990.

All three layouts were upgraded to covered in 1998 and 1999.

In January 2002, work began to remove the old ABT instalations to be replaced with UT equipment, A and C completed; B layout being completed in 2003.

New trap houses to accommodate U.T. (Universal Trench) were designed by John Ward. These consisted of steel fabrications complete with mounts for the traps. These were then dropped straight into the ground. This work could not have been accomplished without a great deal of help from Paul Cockle & Ray Sutton.

New traps duly arrived from Farey and once the wiring to the Italian/Boden electronics was installed, it was all systems go for U.T.

In 2008, the Farey traps were replaced with new Promatic items.

Our darkest day came on 4th January 2009 when we discovered that our clubhouse had been totally destroyed by fire overnight. Everything we had built had gone except the trap houses. We lost many trophies, computers and various other irreplaceable items.

Offers of help from club members came flooding in, for which we will be eternally grateful. Special thanks go out to Mark Reid, who kindly took care of transporting some new portakabins from North Lincolnshire. Work began almost immediately to build the club back up, to the point where it is now bigger and better than ever with a much more comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and vastly improved catering and toilet facilities. We are now able to provide all day catering offering everything from a cup of tea to a full English breakfast.

At the time of writing this article in January 2011, work has begun on our new Helice/ZZ layout which will offer a whole new challenge to us and to our customers.  March 2011 work now completed, this includes a concreted trench, this allows the trappers to remain at the traps in complete safety,thus saving a great deal  of time & effort as previously trappers had to run back & forth when loading traps.

 2012. 3 Promatic A B T traps now installed;

We have a tarmac car park for approximately 52 cars including disabled spaces plus extra grass parking if required.

Our regular fixtures include County Championships for Warwickshire, Staffordshire & Derbyshire as well as Inter-county and Championships for the West Midlands area of the CPSA.

Beginners are always welcome.

Cartridges, ear plugs and other items are available to purchase from the clubhouse. Note: We can supply large quantities of Express or Eley cartridges upon request but this must be arranged at least one week in advance.

Club membership is only £5.00 per year with proceeds being donated to the Northamptonshire and Warwickshire Air Ambulance Service.

New 2nd HELICE RING now up & running, 5 fully automatic ELICIO 45 Helice machines now installed.
